Investors Show Strong Interest in India’s NSE IPO Despite Premium Valuation

India’s much-awaited National Stock Exchange (NSE) IPO has attracted strong investor interest, with bids exceeding $10 billion for the roughly $2.3 billion offering. The issue was subscribed about 5.71 times, while qualified institutional buyers placed bids for around 12.68 times the shares reserved for them.

The strong demand comes despite NSE entering the public market at a valuation considerably higher than several major global exchange operators. At the upper end of its ₹1,785 price band, NSE was valued at approximately 42.9 times its FY2026 earnings, compared with about 23.6 times for Nasdaq, according to market data cited in recent reports.

Investors appear to be focusing on NSE’s dominant position in India’s rapidly expanding capital markets. The exchange accounted for about 93% of cash-equity turnover in the three months ended June 2026, according to NSE disclosures.

However, the premium valuation also highlights the expectations built into the IPO. Regulatory changes affecting derivatives trading and NSE’s dependence on trading-related revenues remain important factors for investors to monitor.

The IPO marks a significant milestone for India’s largest stock exchange after years of preparation for a public listing. NSE shares are scheduled to begin trading on September 24, 2026, according to reporting from The Economic Times.

In short, the NSE IPO has demonstrated substantial investor demand, while its premium valuation places greater attention on the exchange’s future earnings growth, market position and ability to navigate changes in India’s financial markets.
