OpenAI, Google and Anthropic Plan New AI Safety Organisation for 2027

OpenAI, Google and Anthropic are reportedly working together to establish a new organisation focused on improving safety standards for advanced artificial intelligence systems. The group could be launched by the end of 2026 or in early 2027, according to reports.

The proposed organisation, tentatively called the Standards Authority for Frontier AI (SAFA), is expected to develop safety benchmarks, testing practices and guidelines for evaluating advanced AI models before they are widely deployed. Reports indicate that the initiative would operate independently of government administration.

The move comes as AI companies face growing concerns about the risks associated with increasingly powerful models. OpenAI has already confirmed that it has been working with Anthropic and Google on AI safety issues, highlighting broader efforts within the industry to coordinate on safety measures.
