India’s Net Direct Tax Collection Rises 13% to ₹12.12 Lakh Crore

India’s net direct tax collections increased by 12.96% year-on-year to ₹12.12 lakh crore between April 1 and September 17, 2026, according to data released by the Income Tax Department.
Gross direct tax collections also recorded strong growth, rising 15.19% to ₹14.32 lakh crore during the same period. Refunds issued to taxpayers increased by 29.19% to around ₹2.20 lakh crore.
Corporate Tax Collections Rise
Net corporate tax collections climbed to approximately ₹5.56 lakh crore, compared with ₹4.65 lakh crore during the corresponding period last year. Net non-corporate tax collections, which include taxes from individuals and other entities, rose to about ₹6.16 lakh crore.
Securities Transaction Tax (STT) collections also recorded a significant increase, reaching ₹40,214 crore, compared with about ₹26,306 crore a year earlier.
Advance Tax Supports Growth
The increase in direct tax collections was supported by higher advance tax payments. According to the latest data, advance tax collections rose 16.18% to around ₹5.22 lakh crore by September 17.
The latest figures provide an update on the government’s tax revenue position during the first half of financial year 2026-27, with both corporate and non-corporate tax collections showing year-on-year growth.
